Dine-in reservations, email and Instagram at checkout, order email from your own domain

Dine-in reservations

If you seat guests, your store can now take table bookings — from a public page customers book on themselves, through to seating them on a floor plan on the night. It's finished this week, so here's the whole thing.

Customers book on your storefront. Your store has a reservation page at take.app/your-store/reserve, or on your own domain — see a live one at take.app/bali_dining/reserve. A guest picks the party size, date and time, leaves a name and phone, and sends. No account, no WhatsApp back-and-forth.

They only see times you can actually seat. If a free table fits, the booking confirms on the spot with the table assigned; everything else waits in your requests queue. Nothing double-books, and confirmed guests get a WhatsApp confirmation and a reminder 24 hours before.

Set it up in Admin. Add your tables under Dine-in > QR ordering, then open Dine-in > Reservations and click Opening hours — leave Same as store hours on to follow the hours you already keep, or turn it off and give reservations their own week. Share link copies your booking URL.

Read the book at your desk. Reservations used to be readable only on a phone. Admin > Dine-in > Reservations now shows the same book on a computer, so whoever is at the desk can answer the phone. Filter by date range or status, search by guest, phone or table, and open a row for the party size, the table and the note they left, with links to call or WhatsApp the guest.

Run the night on a tablet. Confirming a request, checking a guest in, marking a no-show — that's the Take App mobile app, and the Admin page links straight to it. On a tablet you also get a floor plan: drag each table to match the room, choose Rectangle or Round, and Rotate 90° to turn it.

This is the replacement for the older Table Booking, which retires at the end of September 2026.

Customers can send their order by email or Instagram

Two more buttons on the page a customer lands on after checkout, in Settings > Checkout.

Message channel settings under Checkout with WhatsApp, Instagram and Email switched on, and the Instagram business username field filled in

Email opens their mail app with the order details written and your store email in the To field, subject Order 1234 - Your store. It needs a store email set — the button shows the address it will send to.

A mail app compose window addressed to the store, subject Order #2, with the items, total, customer and invoice link already written

Instagram is for stores whose customers are already in their DMs. Add your Instagram business username, and the customer copies their order message and taps through to your Instagram inbox to paste it.

Both sit alongside WhatsApp, Text, Messenger, Telegram and LINE. Turn on whichever your customers actually use.

Order email from your own domain

Order notification email went out from Take App's address. On the Business plan you can now send it from your own, by connecting Resend in Settings > Integrations.

Verify your domain in Resend, create an API key, and enter the address you want to send from — orders@yourdomain.com. Take App checks the key and the domain when you save, so a domain you haven't verified fails on the settings form rather than at a customer's order.

Resend connect form under Settings > Integrations with a sender email field and an API key field

Order notifications to you and to your customer, low-stock alerts and staff assignment emails then arrive from that address. Login, billing and account email stays on Take App's sender, so an expired key can never lock you out of your own account — and if Resend rejects a message, Take App sends it instead, so an order notification is never silently lost.

Tell a customer their payment landed

On an order, Message > Open WhatsApp with > Payment received opens WhatsApp with a confirmation already written: the amount you actually received, the method it came in on, the balance if the order isn't settled yet, and the order link.

An order's Message menu with Open WhatsApp with expanded, Payment received highlighted, beside a payment split into cash and Paynow with an amount due

It's the net amount received, not the order total — gateway fees off, unpaid lines out — and an order paid in two parts names every method. Like the other messages in that menu it's click-to-chat, so there's no Meta template to get approved and it doesn't touch your send quota. It stays greyed out until something has been paid.

New ways to get paid

  • M-Pesa Paybill for Kenya. Alongside a phone number and a Till number, M-Pesa setup now takes a Paybill number plus the account number the money is credited to. The pay page shows both — Pay Bill has no third prompt for an order reference — and the customer's QR carries them. Learn more
  • LAO QR for Laos. The national QR standard on LAPNet. Upload the static QR your bank issued once, and every order re-emits it carrying the amount and the order reference, so a transfer arrives with something you can reconcile against. Learn more

Add either in Settings > Payments under Local payment methods.

Connect the Stripe account you already have

Connecting Stripe always created a brand new account, so merchants who already had one couldn't attach it. Connect now opens Stripe's own sign-in: pick an account you already have, or register a new one from the same screen.

The image, title and description under Settings > SEO and Trackings only ever showed up once someone pasted your link into a chat, so there was no way to tell what you were editing. The page now draws the chat bubble beside the fields and updates it as you type.

It shows what a scraper will actually read, including the fallbacks when you leave a field empty. Until you connect a custom domain, WhatsApp prints take.app as the address no matter what you put in these fields — the preview says so, with a link to Domains.

  • Bulk category changes no longer wipe the categories you didn't touch.
  • In the mobile app: search your catalog in Settings > Products, and tap a line on a POS order to change its variant, options or quantity.
  • You can add a second TXT record on your domain's root — an SPF record next to a live verification record.
  • Generate image with AI no longer fails on a product with a long description.
