Volumetric weight = length × width × height ÷ 5,000. Most couriers also round the chargeable weight up, often to the next 0.5 kg or 1 lb.
About this tool
Couriers charge for space as well as weight. A large, light parcel takes up room in the van or plane, so they bill its volumetric weight: length × width × height divided by a divisor. Most express couriers use 5000 for centimetres and kilograms, many local and economy services use 6000, and US express services use 139 for inches and pounds. Enter your box size, actual weight and how many boxes you are sending. The calculator shows both weights and the chargeable weight, which is whichever is higher, per box and in total. Use it to pick a smaller box, compare couriers, or set a delivery fee before you quote a customer. Your courier's rate card lists its divisor.
