Take App

Troubleshooting WhatsApp Billing Issues

When your WhatsApp Business account is connected to Take App, Meta has to charge someone for the messages your number sends. If Meta has no working payment method for your account, your number stops sending. This guide shows you how to find out who Meta is billing, and how to fix it for each situation.

This is about Meta's billing for your WhatsApp account, not your Take App subscription. If your Take App plan payment failed, see Subscription payment is overdue or failing instead.

Who pays Meta for your WhatsApp messages

When you connect your number to Take App, Take App shares its credit line with your WhatsApp account. A credit line is a way of paying Meta: Meta sends the bill for your messages to Take App, and the messages count towards your Take App WhatsApp quota. You don't need to add a card in Meta.

A few Meta rules explain most billing problems:

  • Each account has exactly one payment method. It is either Take App's credit line, another provider's credit line, or your own card.
  • Meta doesn't let you change a credit line once it's attached. Meta's own guidance is: "Credit lines cannot be changed after being attached to a Messaging account. If the Messaging account needs a different credit line, a new Messaging account must be created."
  • An account paid by one provider's credit line can't be shared with another provider.

In late 2026 Meta split each WhatsApp Business account into a WhatsApp account (your phone numbers) and a Messaging account (your templates and billing). Billing now lives on the Messaging account. Older guides and Meta screens may still say "WhatsApp Business account" for the same thing.

Signs of a billing problem

  • The WhatsApp Business page in Take App shows "Your number can't send messages"
  • Your customers receive order updates and reminders from the Take App number instead of yours
  • Broadcasts fail to send
  • In Settings > Workflow > Activity, failed messages show "Payment issue - Verify billing setup" (Meta error 131042)

While your number can't send, Take App sends your order updates and reminders from the Take App number so your customers still get them. This is on purpose, not a bug, and it stops once your own number can send again. Broadcasts can't fall back this way, so they won't send until billing is fixed.

Step 1 — Check the billing status in Take App

  1. Go to Sales Channels > WhatsApp.
  2. Click Sync at the top of the page, so Take App reads your billing from Meta again.
  3. In the Profile card, look at Billing status. Your WhatsApp Business ID is shown at the bottom of the same card; you'll need it later.
Billing statusWhat it means
Billed by Take AppEverything is set up. Meta bills Take App for your messages.
Pending approvalMeta is still approving Take App's billing for your account. This usually clears on its own; press Sync again later.
No payment methodMeta has nothing to charge, so your number can't send. Pressing Sync reconnects Take App's billing in most cases.
Billing access revokedYour account is stuck on an old Take App billing setup that Meta no longer accepts. See Stuck on an old Take App billing setup.
Other payment methodMeta bills someone other than Take App: your own card or another provider's credit line. Take App doesn't charge you for these messages.
Unable to verifyTake App couldn't read your billing from Meta this time. Press Sync again; this is usually temporary.

If the status is Billed by Take App but messages still fail, or if it isn't clear which situation you're in, go to Step 2.

Step 2 — Check your payment method in Meta and send us a screenshot

Meta's billing screen shows exactly who is paying for your account. A screenshot of it lets us tell straight away what's wrong, without guessing.

  1. Open Meta Business Suite and choose the business that owns your WhatsApp number.
  2. Go to Settings > Billing and payments.
  3. Open the Messaging accounts tab (on older screens: WhatsApp Business accounts).
  4. Find your account. Match it with the WhatsApp Business ID shown in Take App.
  5. Click View details next to it. If you see Add payment method instead, your account has no payment method — take the screenshot of that.
  6. Take a screenshot that shows the account name, the payment method, and any unpaid balance.

If you can't open Billing and payments, you need full control of the business portfolio or the Manage business finances permission. Ask the owner of your Meta business to take the screenshot.

Send us:

  • Your store link
  • Your WhatsApp Business ID from Take App
  • A screenshot of Sales Channels > WhatsApp in Take App
  • The screenshot from Meta Billing and payments

Open Support in your dashboard menu and message the support team. If the WhatsApp Business page shows a Contact support button, you can use that too.

The screenshot usually shows one of these:

Fix it for your situation

No payment method

  1. Go to Sales Channels > WhatsApp and click Sync. Take App attaches its credit line to your account.
  2. Check that Billing status changes to Billed by Take App or Pending approval.
  3. If it still shows No payment method, send us the screenshots from Step 2.

If your Take App plan doesn't include automated WhatsApp messages, Take App doesn't attach its credit line, and No payment method is expected.

Stuck on an old Take App billing setup

The Billing status shows Billing access revoked, and the page says your account is stuck on an old Take App billing setup.

Your account is still pointing at a Take App credit line that Meta no longer accepts. Because Meta doesn't allow a credit line to be changed once it's attached, there's no setting you can switch in Meta, and pressing Sync or reconnecting doesn't fix it on its own.

What to do:

  1. Send us the screenshots from Step 2. Don't delete or recreate anything yet.
  2. We try to restore Take App's billing from our side. For many accounts this brings billing back without you doing anything else.
  3. If that doesn't work, we open a case with Meta for your account and follow it up for you.
  4. If Meta can't move it either, we help you set up a new account — see Last resort: a new account.

Your order updates and reminders keep going out from the Take App number the whole time, so your customers still hear from you.

Your own card is attached

Meta charges your card directly for messages from your number. Take App doesn't charge you for them, and they don't use your Take App quota.

If your messages stopped sending, the card was most likely declined, expired, or removed, or there's an unpaid balance. Take App may still show Other payment method in this case, because Meta reports the card as attached.

  1. In Meta Business Suite, go to Settings > Billing and payments.
  2. Update the card on your account. Meta accepts Visa and Mastercard.
  3. Pay any outstanding balance.

Sending usually starts again shortly after the balance is paid.

If you'd rather Take App pays Meta, the card can't be swapped for Take App's credit line on the same account, because each account keeps one payment method. Contact us and we'll help you move to a new account — see Last resort: a new account.

Another provider's credit line is attached

This happens when your number was used with another WhatsApp provider before Take App. Your account is still billed through that provider, so Take App can't pay for it, and your messages may still be charged by them.

  1. Send us the screenshots from Step 2, so we can confirm it's another provider's credit line.
  2. Ask your previous provider to stop billing your account (revoke their credit line) and to remove their access.
  3. Remove their access yourself, too. In Meta Business Suite, go to Settings > Accounts > Messaging accounts, select your account, click Manage next to the provider, and click Remove access. Do the same under WhatsApp accounts.
  4. Reconnect following the steps below that match how you use WhatsApp.

If you use the WhatsApp Business app on your phone (you connected with "Both my mobile phone and Take App Inbox"), Meta's own fix is to disconnect and reconnect from the app:

  1. Back up your chats in the WhatsApp Business app.
  2. In the WhatsApp Business app, go to Settings > Account > Business Platform and tap Disconnect Account.
  3. Wait 15 minutes.
  4. In Take App, go to Sales Channels > WhatsApp and connect again with "Both my mobile phone and Take App Inbox".

Disconnect, don't delete. Use Disconnect Account — don't delete your WhatsApp account or the app. Deleting your account can lose your chat history. If you reinstall the app, WhatsApp may offer to reconnect your previous provider with a box already ticked: untick it.

If you only use Take App Inbox (you connected with "Take App Inbox only"), contact us before reconnecting. Depending on how your account was set up, reconnecting through Take App may be enough, or you may need a new account.

Pending approval

Meta is still approving Take App's credit line for your account. This usually finishes on its own. Press Sync later to check again. If it stays on Pending approval for more than a day, or your messages fail, send us the screenshots from Step 2.

You're leaving Take App and want to pay Meta yourself

If you've stopped using Take App and want Meta to bill you directly, or to move to another provider, contact us with your WhatsApp Business ID and ask us to remove Take App's credit line. Also remove Take App's access in Meta Business Suite under Settings > Accounts > Messaging accounts and WhatsApp accounts, using Manage > Remove access.

Last resort: a new account

When a credit line is stuck and neither we nor Meta can move it, Meta's answer is a new Messaging account with the right billing attached. It is the fix of last resort, because it means setting your WhatsApp up again.

Contact us before you delete or create anything. Meta doesn't let a phone number move freely between accounts, so the right steps depend on how your number is set up today. We'll go through them with you.

Before starting:

  • Back up your chats. In the WhatsApp Business app, go to Settings > Chats > Chat backup.
  • Know the difference between disconnecting and deleting. Disconnecting keeps your WhatsApp account and chats on your phone. Deleting your WhatsApp account permanently removes your message history and can also delete your cloud backup. A chat backup does not make account deletion safe: WhatsApp cannot restore chats or backups from a deleted account. See WhatsApp's account deletion guidance.
  • Keep your Meta Business Suite login handy — you'll need it to create the new account and connect it to Take App.

Contacting Meta yourself

Billing problems with a provider's credit line can usually only be fixed by Meta or the provider, so in most cases it's quickest to let us contact Meta for you. If you'd like to contact Meta yourself:

  1. Go to Meta Direct Support and click Ask a Question.
  2. Choose the topic Dev: Billing, Credit & Pricing.
  3. Include your business portfolio ID, your WhatsApp Business ID, your phone number, and the screenshot from Step 2.

If you don't see the Dev: Billing, Credit & Pricing topic, Meta asks you to have your provider open the ticket. Tell us and we'll open it for you.
