WhatsApp templates from the API and MCP

You can now create, list and send WhatsApp message templates through the Platform API — and through MCP, so Claude or ChatGPT can do it for you.

Submit a template and it goes to Meta for review, comes back PENDING, and becomes sendable once approved — usually a few minutes. The send-message endpoint then delivers it. A rejected template comes back with Meta's reason.

The use it was built for: write a promotion, get it approved, and send it to the people who gave you their number but never ordered — without doing it one message at a time.

If your store is in Europe, the UK, Switzerland or South Africa and you've added a Google Analytics, TikTok or Facebook tracking ID, your storefront now asks visitors for consent before any of those scripts load.

Customers get Accept all, Reject non-essential, or Manage preferences, with a switch each for Analytics and Marketing. The answer is kept for six months, and a Cookie settings link in your footer lets them change it.

There's nothing to set up. It appears only for the stores that need it; every other storefront loads exactly as before.

Fixes to what your pixels report

If you run Meta, TikTok or Google Analytics, some of your numbers were wrong. Expect your reports to move.

  • Add to cart reported the whole cart, re-counting what was already in it, so the value inflated as a customer shopped. It now reports only the item added.
  • Product views went out as bare IDs — no price, no name. They now carry both.
  • Events fired before a pixel finished loading were dropped. They now wait for it.
  • Your own orders counted as sales. Orders you create or edit in Admin are excluded, refreshing a finished order no longer double-counts, and payment links now report a purchase.

Purchase still fires when the order is placed — that hasn't changed. Four signals are new:

What the customer doesMetaTikTokGoogle Analytics
Opens a productViewContentViewContentview_item
Browses a category — newViewContentViewContentview_item_list
Searches your store — newSearchSearchsearch
Adds to cartAddToCartAddToCartadd_to_cart
Starts checkoutInitiateCheckoutInitiateCheckoutbegin_checkout
Creates an account — newCompleteRegistrationCompleteRegistrationsign_up
Places an orderPurchasePurchasepurchase
Reaches a payment outcome — newPaymentStatusPaymentStatuspayment_status

PaymentStatus is the one worth setting up: it carries completed when the money is in and pending while a transfer is being confirmed, so you can separate orders taken from money received. A failed attempt reports nothing. It's a custom event on all three — segment on the status property.

VietQR for Vietnam

Vietnamese stores can now accept VietQR, the national QR standard on NAPAS 247. Add it in Settings > Payments under Local payment methods and upload your QR once.

Every order then gets its own QR carrying the amount and the order number, so the transfer arrives with a reference you can reconcile. Because it rides NAPAS, every Vietnamese bank app works with no per-bank setup.

A warning before you edit a discounted order

Automatic discounts — a bundle, buy X get Y, or an order value discount — are not re-checked when you edit an order, so the total can come out different from what the discount rules would give. Editing an order that has one now shows a warning naming the discounts involved, so you check the number before you save.

Better image uploads

More of your files arrive as images: WebP now shows as a picture instead of a file link, and HEIC photos are recognised too.

On a shaky connection a slow transfer is left to finish while a stalled one fails quickly, instead of leaving you watching a spinner. And the image gallery loads sized-down versions instead of full-size originals, so browsing on a phone uses far less data.

The chatbot retires in September

The WhatsApp and Instagram AI chatbot is being retired at the end of September 2026. Meta's own Business Agent replaces it.

If you have one configured it keeps working until then, and new stores no longer get the option. If you rely on it to answer customers, move to Meta Business Agent before the end of the month.

Others

  • CSV imports read prices that arrive formatted, like $1,299.00 or Rp 1.500.000. They used to import the product at zero.
  • Correos Express and the other Spanish couriers are back in the courier picker, and old orders that had lost their tracking button resolve again.
  • Razorpay payments that never made it back from the bank app now settle on their own, instead of leaving a paid order marked Pending.
  • Customers paying through Stripe no longer re-enter a phone number or email they already gave you at checkout, and your order reference now shows on the Stripe payment.
