Question 1

Will compressing make my photos look worse?

Accepted Answer

At the default quality of 80, most product photos look the same as the original on a phone or laptop screen, at a fraction of the file size. JPG and WebP are lossy formats, so very low quality settings can show blur or blocky patches. Check a photo or two before you download the whole batch.

Question 2

What does the target file size do?

Accepted Answer

Pick a maximum such as 100, 200 or 500 KB and the tool lowers the quality of each photo until it fits. If lowering the quality isn't enough, it also makes the photo smaller in pixels. If a photo still can't reach the target, it is marked so you know.

Question 3

Should I choose JPG or WebP?

Accepted Answer

JPG opens everywhere, so it is the safe choice for WhatsApp and for uploading to any platform. WebP files are usually smaller at the same quality and are supported by all modern browsers, which suits your own store and website. Same as original keeps JPG as JPG and WebP as WebP, and turns PNG into JPG unless the image has transparent areas.

Question 4

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

Accepted Answer

No. Compression happens in your browser, on your own device. Your photos are never uploaded to Take App or anyone else, and they are gone from the page when you clear it or close the tab.

Question 5

How many photos can I compress at once?

Accepted Answer

Up to 50 photos at a time, each up to 40 MB. They are compressed one after another, and you can download them together as a single ZIP file. HEIC photos from an iPhone are saved as JPG.
