Question 1

Which barcode type should I use?

Accepted Answer

Use Code 128 for labels only you scan, such as stock, shelf and SKU labels. It holds letters and numbers, and every scanner reads it. Use EAN-13 (or UPC-A in the US and Canada) for products sold through shops and marketplaces, EAN-8 for very small packs, and ITF-14 for outer cartons. Code 39 is an older type some stock systems still ask for.

Question 2

Can I sell in supermarkets with these barcodes?

Accepted Answer

The barcode image is fine, but the number inside it has to be yours. Supermarkets and marketplaces that ask for an EAN or UPC barcode expect a number licensed to your business by GS1, the organisation that issues them through a local office in each country. A made-up number can belong to another company's product and get rejected. For labels used only inside your own business, EAN numbers starting with 2 and UPC-A numbers starting with 4 are set aside for in-store use, and Code 128 needs no licence at all.

Question 3

How do I print barcodes on label sheets?

Accepted Answer

Choose your label sheet, press Print label sheet, and print at 100% scale with Fit to page turned off so each barcode lands on a label. Print one page on plain paper first and hold it against a label sheet to check the line-up. For a thermal label printer, choose the 50 × 30 mm option and each barcode prints on its own label.

Question 4

Is it free, and is my product list uploaded?

Accepted Answer

It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The barcodes are made in your browser, so your codes and product names never leave your device.

Question 5

How do I make many barcodes at once?

Accepted Answer

Paste your list into the box, one product per line. Write the code, then a comma and the product name if you want it on the label, for example TSHIRT-BLK-M, Cotton T-shirt. You can also copy two columns straight from a spreadsheet. Up to 200 barcodes are made at once, and Download all gives you every PNG in one ZIP file.
