Markup is how much you add on top of what an item costs you. Enter your cost and the markup you want, and see the selling price, the profit on each sale and the margin that price gives you. Or enter your cost and a price you already charge to see your markup and margin. The two are easy to mix up: markup is profit as a share of cost, margin is profit as a share of the selling price, so a 50% markup is only a 33.3% margin. Suppliers and wholesale price lists often talk in markup while your accounts show margin, so it helps to see both side by side.
